Do ever get into a idea holding pattern? This weekend I was determined to start a new project at home. There are so many things to do and improvements to make in every room.. But instead of working on these projects I've spent the majority of my free time on Pinterest and the internet researching and dreaming up NEW projects to do. I started out looking up information on drapery solutions for wide windows and hours later I'm looking up niches, built in shelving, furniture ideas, and DIY craft projects. I get lost so quickly in a dreaming phase at times and it seems like nothing actually gets done. While this inactivity can be frustrating, I think dreaming phases are vitally important to the creative process. Allowing yourself the time to properly brainstorm and work through ideas helps you create something more developed, unique and personal to you. It can be tempting to rush through this important step only to be dissatisfied with the final outcome. For example, choosing a paint color in the harsh lighting of the paint store aisle because you want to get started so badly rather than taking the time to bring several swatches home to try it out in your room, can give you less than satisfactory results. You may end up settling with a color that just doesn't do it for you.
So, with this in mind, I'll allow myself a little leeway this weekend. Some of these ideas ruminating in my head will eventually come about in real life. I know that balancing my "dreaming" and my "doing" is important. The key is to know when it's time to end the "idea holding pattern" and actually land one of them. So I'll give it the rest of the day to decide on this week's project.... that's if I can stay off the internet.
